Wanted: Cocktail Taste Testers!

Standard

Remember getting a big scrape and having your wound cleaned with rubbing alcohol? Ack! The sting! The pain! The smell! Well, the smell of that is pretty much how I sum up Koreans’ drink of choice: soju. Clearly, I am not a fan.

Alas, Korea is not a cocktail culture–so my beloved White Russians and Midori Sours are very hard to come by.

For the wedding reception, I am considering having some signature cocktails, and I’ve been diligently looking up various recipes–Bless the Internet! Unfortunately, the Internet can’t help me TASTE these cocktails, though.

So for any of you interested in trying something new and/or sharing your opinions, I would love to live vicariously through your taste buds and hear what you think! After all, what would YOU like to drink?

Here’s some of the cocktails I’m considering (p.s. our wedding colors are white, yellow & green):

AVIATION (mostly for the “travel” theme, although depending on how it’s made, it can appear yellow-ish)
2oz gin
1/2oz maraschino liqueur
1/2oz lemon juice
Shake with ice and strain into a chilled cocktail glass.

The original AVIATION (includes a hard to find ingredient)
1.5 oz gin
0.5 oz lemon juice
0.5 tsp Maraschino liquer (Luxardo)
0.5 tsp creme de Violette (Hermes)
Shake with ice and strain into a chilled cocktail glass.

HONEY SIDECAR
1 oz. brandy or cognac
1/2 oz. fresh squeezed lemon juice
1/2 oz. honey syrup (equal parts honey dissolved in water)
1/2 oz. triple sec
Shake with ice and strain into a chilled, sugar-rimmed martini glass. Garnish with lemon twist.

LEMON DROP MARTINI
1 1/2 ounces vodka
1/2 ounce triple sec
1 teaspoon superfine sugar
3/4 ounce freshly squeezed lemon juice
Shake with ice and strain into a chilled, sugar-rimmed martini glass. Garnish with lemon twist.

VODKA GRASSHOPPER
3/4 oz green creme de menthe
3/4 oz white creme de cacao
3/4 oz vodka

ABSOLUT VANILLA GRASSHOPPER
1 part Absolut Vanilla
1 part Chocolate Liqueur
1 part Cream
1 part Green Mint Liqueur
Shake with ice and strain into a chilled cocktail glass.

and of course:

WHITE RUSSIAN
1 part Vodka
1 part Kahlua
1 part cream
Pour these ingredients in this order into a cocktail glass filled with ice.

And the Wedding Flower Winner is….

Standard

So if you read my last post, “Wedding Flower Woes,” then you know I was pretty bummed about not being able to use daffodils as part of my floral arrangements because they are not available in May.  So I kept browsing, and I’ve decided on yellow alstroemerias, pictured below:

They reminded me most of the happiness I associate with daffodils ^^!
